Throwback Thursday: Aloha, Y'all
We got hitched on the beach. We had an Aloha, Y'all theme because I'm from Texas and Tim's family is Hawaiian. We got a ride from the beach to the reception (which was in Tim's parents' back yard) in a fire truck because Tim's dad was a fire captain. People wore leis and aloha shirts with cowboy hats. It was casual and silly and so much fun. Our pal Dawn performed the ceremony, Roxane sang (if you've ever heard her sing, you know how cool that was) and Tim's aunt made her awesome Korean barbecue. It really felt like a community effort. It couldn't have been more perfect. It couldn't have been more us.
Favorite memories of that day: My Papaw stealing a black and white cookie from Canters and putting it in his pocket "for later." My parents walking me down the "aisle" which was a really long ramp going from the street down to the beach. Tim's cousins Laurel, Lily and Lauren taking turns dancing with their grandpa. My sister, who was five months pregnant with our nephew Logan, and Tim's brother Brian giving hilarious speeches and making us cry-laugh. My mother-in-law swearing she didn't get to see the cake cutting and then showing up in the photos right in the front row. My dad and my my father-in-law posing for pictures in matching cowboy hats and serious expressions. Our friends Che and Diane stealing one of the table cameras and sneaking around the house taking hilarious ridiculous photos with toilets and exercise balls. Tim's Uncle Jack eating three of our candy leis in one sitting. My mom, my sister, Rox and Edi helping me get ready and keeping me calm. (They made me laugh, gave me champagne and told me I looked pretty. It worked.) Tim and I trying to pose for photos with our patient photographer and friend, Lori, but we couldn't stop laughing. In every photo we have we're laughing.
I love that.
And I love Tim. I'm thrilled to be an old married chick. I'm thrilled to be anything if it's with him. For our anniversary, we'll go out to dinner tomorrow night but the big dealio is that we're headed to London on the 23rd. Can't wait to celebrate a decade of good times. Thanks to all our friends and family who were there that day and cheers to everyone we've met since then. To all wedding people, I'll post a little album tomorrow on Facebook so we can all talk about how young and drunk we look.
Happy Throwback Thursday! Aloha, y'all!
